Airbnb celebrates outstanding hosts across Ireland at Oscailte 2017

To close out Airbnb Oscailte 2017, Airbnb hosted the second ever Irish Host Awards to celebrate some of the warmest and most hospitable hosts.

Ireland’s Most Unique Listing was awarded to Steve McMahon and Aine Cleary. Their lakeside cabin in North Tipperary provides an idyllic holiday experience for guests. The cabin is nestled in a tranquil woodland setting, with uninterrupted panoramic views over Lough Derg all the way to the Sliabh Aughty hills in county Galway. The cabin is far away from busy roads and street lights and is a haven of birdsong, starry nights and spectacular sunsets with reviews saying it is “one of the best views we have ever woken up to.”

Jacqueline Fitzpatrick won the award for Warmest Welcome. Jacqueline hosts in the beautiful county Louth in the town of Carlingford. One of her reviewers noted that, “As an overseas visitor, Jacqueline epitomised all that I hoped Ireland and Airbnb would be, colourful, warm, welcoming, storytelling. Without invading our personal space, she was on hand with suggestions on the area and the country in general. She LOVES what she is doing and for us is a perfect ambassador for Airbnb.”

The Most Inspiring Host Story award went to Caroline McCarthy. Caroline began hosting in her home located in Carrigaline in the summer of 2016 as a way to fund her trip to Rio to support daughter, Niamh in the Paralympic games. Caroline managed to travel to Brazil where she saw her daughter win a silver medal in discus for Ireland and has since continued hosting guests from all over the world as a superhost.

Finally, Malachy Quinn won the Community Champion award. Malachy and his partner Wendy host in Dublin 3 and have welcomed people from every corner of the globe to their home. Malachy has been instrumental in forming the Dublin Home Sharing Club which he leads by arranging meetings, planning activities and meeting new hosts. He is a true Community Champion, striving to bring  home sharing hosts together in a vibrant hosting community, not just in Dublin but across Ireland.
